The first Ethiopian espresso in our offering this season, Banko Gotiti from Gedeo is here! Established in 2009, the Banko Gotiti washing station is located in the Gedeo Zone and collects cherries from surrounding smallholder farms. Focusing on agroforestry, farmers in the area typically grow indigenous trees alongside their coffee plants. Placed on drying beds for approximately 10 to 15 days, the coffee is meticulously cared for. According to our importer ‘Nordic Approach’, during the day, the cherries are continuously raked to ensure consistent drying and from 12 till 3 in the afternoon, covered to protect them from the strong sun. Finally in the evening, the beds are covered once again to ensure the cherries avoid any rainfall. Unlike our previous Ethiopian offering Melka Gumie which showcased gentle, floral qualities, this coffee is an outstanding example of the diversity produced in the same region. Creamy and medium bodied with notes of blueberry and raspberry, Banko Gotiti has the joyful essence of an Eton Mess and the ideal espresso for summer!
