A first-time showcase, we're thrilled to introduce Chalchissa from Jimma, Ethiopia. Unlike the combined smallholder lots we typically present from Ethiopia, this coffee comes from an organically certified estate named after its owner Yidnakechew Dabessa Chalchissa. The 150-ha farm is located in Wolensu, Limu and employs up to 150 harvesters per day during the harvest season. Managed by Mesfin Dabessa, Chalchissa has a small washing station on-site where they produce both high-quality washed and natural coffees. The farm was introduced to us by a Selector company called Bertu. They act as a facilitator between mid-to-large-size farmers in Ethiopia seeking a direct relationship with roasters, which is notoriously challenging in Ethiopia. Placing a strong emphasis on understanding their cost of production and continually reinvesting back into the farm's development, Chalchissa partners with Mordecofe in Addis Ababa for final milling and export preparation.
