Showcased as a single-origin espresso at the start of the year, we were such fans of La Bermeja we had to bring it back for our latest Filter Decaf! From the Tabaconas region in Peru, this lot highlights the current changes to Peruvian coffee sourcing and community blends. Made of cherries found exclusively in the farmer group of La Bermeja, the coffee demonstrates our recent ‘nesting strategy’, focusing on purchasing from increasingly smaller representatives and individual producers. One of our notable microlot farmers, Roybel Jaramillo, contributed significant lots to this particular coffee. A stand-out family within the La Berjema group, The Jaramillos work together to cultivate nearly 8 hectares of coffee over their seven scattered, individual farms. In typical Peruvian style, they pick and process their own cherries as a collective, rotating from farm to farm, exemplifying the ‘minga’ ethos of leadership and helping families and neighbours with their harvests.
